Bilberry

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), also known as huckleberry, is a small shrub that produces edible berries and medicinal leaves. Both the berries and the leaves of bilberry have been used for a variety of conditions, including the management of blood sugar levels. According to the University of Maryland, research shows that all edible berry plants can be helpful in reducing the body’s natural glucose response after eating a meal that is high in sugar and processed carbohydrates that convert to sugar in the body. Bilberry also contains antioxidant anthocyanosides that help to protect the eyes from deteriorating vision. You can eat the fresh berries, drink a bilberry tea, or take a standardized 25% anthocyanidin extract.
